Today in Canada 10 people will end their lives by suicide; up to 200 others will attempt so.
World Suicide Prevention Day (WSPD) is an awareness day observed on September 10th every year, in order to provide worldwide commitment and action to prevent suicides.

Statistics
For each death by suicide, the World Health Organization estimates 10 people are deeply affected. Today in Canada, 10 deaths by suicide will leave up to 100 people in a state of bereavement. Beyond these people, up to 100 additional people will also affected by the death.
According to Statistics Canada, between 2014 and 2018 there were an average of 4,121 suicides per year, which means over 400,000 people bereaving suicide loss each year. Even more people are suffering from suicidal thoughts, e.g. in 2015 over 3,396,000 Canadians aged 12 and over had suicide-related thoughts and behaviours.
Suicide occurs across all age, economic, social, and ethnic boundaries. The pain that leads individuals to take their lives is unimaginable, and their deaths leave countless family and friends bereaved and their communities impacted.
